A : Where have you been? Can we talk now?

(어디 다녀와요? 지금 얘기해도 돼요?)

B : Give me a minute. I need to catch my breath.

(잠깐만요. 숨 좀 돌리고요.)

A : Why are you out of breath?

(왜 그렇게 숨을 헐떡여요?)

B : I’ve been to the flower shop.

(꽃가게 다녀왔거든요.)

A : A carnation? Right? Yesterday was Parents’ Day.

(카네이션 꽃이요? 그렇죠? 어제가 어버이날이었죠.)

B : I gave them a carnation yesterday. Today is my wife’s birthday.

(부모님께는 어제 카네이션 꽃을 드렸죠. 오늘은 제 아내 생일이거든요.)

→catch one’s breath 숨을 돌리다, 한숨 돌리다. Let me catch my breath. (숨 좀 돌릴게요.)

→be out of breath 헐떡이다. 숨이 차다.(= be short of breath) I am out of breath because I ran all the way from the subway station.(지하철역에서부터 뛰어왔더니 숨이 차요.)
